MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE – The Black Parade (Reprise/Warner)

My Chemical Romance machen es einem nicht gerade einfach, sie zu mögen. Sie zieren die Posterseiten von Jugendmagazinen, werden auf Musikkanälen rauf und runter gespielt, und sie schminken sich ihre Gesichter. Zwar nicht so auffällig wie andere, aber immerhin. My Chemical Romance sind also sehr, sehr hip. Da waren doch aber auch noch Songs wie “I’m Not Okay (I Promise)”, “Helena” oder “You Know What They Do To Guys Like Us In Prison”. Und die waren richtig grosse Klasse. Seit ihrem grossen Durchbruch sind nun bald mal zwei Jahre vergangen. Die Fanschar hat sich vergrössert, altersmässig stark nach unten korrigiert, und auch die Konzerthallen wurden immer grösser.

Erinnert irgendwie an Green Day, oder? Auch diese begannen irgendwo im Untergrund, erspielten sich immer mehr Anhänger und spielten schliesslich, nach 15 Jahren Band-Dasein, eine sogenannte Punkoper der Extraklasse ein. Nur schade, dass die Songs von Radio- und Fernsehstationen zu Tode gespielt wurden. My Chemical Romance spielen erst seit ca. fünf Jahren zusammen. Umso erstaunlicher ist das Ergebnis ihrer Arbeit zu „The Black Parade“. Punk ist das zwar nicht, aber der Begriff „Rockoper“ kommt dem Ganzen schon sehr nahe. Bereits das Intro „The End“ zeigt die Richtung auf: Pomp, Piano und Queen. Richtig gelesen, Freddie Mercury, Brian May usw. Na gut, die nachfolgenden „Dead“ und „The Sharpest Lives“ gehen immer noch in Richtung „Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge“, und auch die Single „Welcome To The Black Parade“ ist ein wenig ein Abklatsch von „I’m Not Okay“, allerdings wiederum mit viel Tamtam, Marschmusik und so, drumherum. Der straighte Rocker „House Of Wolves“ erinnert mich etwas an „And The Ship Sails“ von Favez, „Cancer“ ist ein Tränendrüsendrücker erster Güte. Das absolute Highlight folgt mit „Mama“. Polka, Killermelodie, Monsterriff und, nicht zuletzt, Liza Minelli (keine Namensvetterein, sondern das Original!!) als Gastsängerin. „Teenager“ klingt arg nach 70ies Funrock (gibt’s das überhaupt?), macht aber, gerade deswegen, mächtig Spass. Der Schlussakt ist dann schon sehr schön, ebenso melodiös, schrammt aber nur haarscharf am Kitsch vorbei.

Ich zieh den Hut, ein solches Werk hätte ich My Chemical Romance (noch) nicht zugetraut. Hoffentlich widerfährt ihnen nicht dasselbe wie Green Day. Denn für die ganz grossen Stadien ist das hier einfach zu gut! Und „We Are The Champions“ als Zugabe… das muss echt nicht sein!
