Mit Electric President und Ms. John Soda.

Wenn Indie-Pop auf Electro-Beats trifft, nennt man das gerne mal "Indietronics". Ein schlauer Name für ein Genre, das immer mal wieder ganz tolle Platten hervorbringt. In jüngerer Zeit besonders erfolgreich (und gut!) waren The Postal Service, die Zweitband von Death Cab For Cutie-Sänger Benjamin Gibbard. Deren Album "Give Up" erschien auf Sub Pop Records, ein Label welches sonst eher für Rockmusik steht und für das The Postal Service musikalisch ein Fremdkörper war (nichtsdestotrotz ist "Give Up" mittlerweile das meistverkaufte Sub Pop-Album aller Zeiten). Das Berliner Label Morr-Music hingegen gehört zu den besten Adressen in Sachen Indietronics (call it Electro-Pop, wenn dir das lieber ist). Lali Puna stellen da nur die Speerspitze dar. Zwei neuere Veröffentlichungen möchte ich hier kurz vorstellen:

ELECTRIC PRESIDENT - s/t (Morr/Namskeio)
Ben Cooper und Alex Kane fahren quasi dort fort, wo Postal Service aufgehört haben. Letztere beendeten ihr Album "Give Up" mit dem Song "Natural Anthem", der auf einem Drum 'n' Bass-Beat aufgebaut war. Electric Presidents Album beginnt mit "Good Morning, Hypocrite", ein Song der gegen Schluss in einem solchen mündet. Das ist bezeichnend. Nicht dass Electric President keine eigenen Ideen haben. Das abschliessende "Farewell" etwa brilliert mit kurzen Lärm-Eskapaden, wie man sie von Postal Service nicht kennt. Aber sagen wir's mal so: Wer auf ein neues Postal Service-Album wartet, sollte sich die Wartezeit mit Electric President versüssen.

MS. JOHN SODA - Notes And The Like (Morr/Namskeio)
Wenn man bei Electric President unweigerlich an The Postal Service denken muss, dann drängt sich bei Ms. John Soda der Vergleich mit Lali Puna geradezu auf. Ms. John Soda ist ein Duo, bestehend aus Stefanie Böhm und Micha Acher. Letzteren kennt man von Notwist und sein Bruder - Markus - ist eben auch bei Lali Puna mit von der Partie. Wenn Electric President eher Songwriter-Musik mit elektronischen Beats machen, dann kommen Ms. John Soda eher von der Elektronik und mischen etwas Pop darunter. Die Elektronik ist dominanter, Gitarren sind nebensächlich. Ein Song darf auch mal durchgehend von einem Uffz uffz-Beat begleitet werden, während Electric President eher auf Knister-Beats setzen. Dass mir "Notes And The Likes" letzlich weniger gut gefällt, liegt aber weniger am unterschiedlichen Songwriting, sondern vor allem daran, dass Stefanie Böhm's monotone Stimme mich nicht zu berühren vermag. Wer an der elektronischen Musik vor allem das Plätschernde mag, dem ist damit aber vielleicht besser gedient.
