DEUS - Pocket Revolution (V2/TBA)

Die belgischen Pop-Genies melden sich nach (zu) langer Absenz zurück.

Nach dem vielschichtigen Meisterwerk "The Ideal Crash" - seit dessen Erscheinen sind 6 Jahre vergangen - erscheint nun endlich der Nachfolger "Pocket Revolution". Irgendwie schräg sind dEUS noch immer, gleichzeitig aber auch rockiger und kompakter denn je. "Pocket Revolution" wartet mit Gitarren-Brettern auf, wie man sie bis anhin von dEUS nicht kannte. Das beginnt schon im Opener "Bad Timing", einem Song der sich in typischer dEUS-Manier in einen wahren Rausch spielt und nach rund vier Minuten kein Halten mehr kennt, und setzt sich fort in "If You Don't Get What You Want". Auch der staubtrockene Fuzz-Bass in "Nightshopping" stellt ein Novum dar und lässt dEUS mehr denn je wie ihre belgischen Landsmänner Soulwax klingen. Aber natürlich fehlen die vertrauten jazzig-loungigen Parts nicht (etwa in "The Real Sugar" oder in "Nothing Really Ends"), die Tom Barman's dunkler Stimme viel Platz lassen. Highlight des Albums ist aber der recht simpel gestrickte, aber beindruckend tiefschürfende Pop-Song "7 Days, 7 Weeks", der die neugefundene Konventionalität irgendwie am besten auf den Punkt bringt.

Trotz der kompakteren Songs, finden sich auch auf "Pocket Revolution" Überraschungen und Eruptionen. So etwa im Titeltrack, der nach 2 Minuten und 2 Sekunden in ein wahres Feuerwerk aus Chören und Gitarren ausbricht. Und im Hintergrund tummeln sich sowieso wie eh und je abgründige Streicher, Stimmsamples und Gitarrenfeedbacks, die dem dEUS'schen Sound die besondere Tiefe verleihen.

Ich muss zugeben, es brauchte dennoch einige Hördurchläufe, bis ich mit "Pocket Revolution" warm geworden bin. Aber als ich damals "The Ideal Crash" zum ersten Mal gehört habe, bin ich (aus heutiger Sicht unverständlicherweise) auch alles andere als begeistert gewesen. Insofern: dEUS muss man sich weiterhin erarbeiten, dann wird man aber mit Pop-Musik belohnt, deren Vielschichtigkeit man schätzt und die so schnell nicht langweilig wird.

im deutschlandfunk!!! mit dem herrlichen langwellengebrechen war eigentümlich was tock tock tock mit spanischem gezische zu hören, super, nur zu hoffen, die ansage danach nicht im funkloch zu sitzen. yes! dEUS! spanische version von what we talk about, album pocket revolution. gleich gekauft.
wieder mal wochenlang keinen sinn für solch altmodisches gedudel. lese, dEUS sei eine favourite band von michael stipe und thom yorke, die beiden schlafen zur zeit auch mehr oder weniger, so weit ich weiß, den hoffentlich nicht schon ewigen schlaf der geläuterten.
dEUS cd entrinnt nur knapp dem mülleimer.
im auto lust auf pixies, doolittle, krame die dunkle cd raus, spielt aber nicht pixies sondern dEUS, hä? habe falsche cd eingelegt. und schon rasselt track 1 irreversibel in diese entscheidenden hirnarreale rein - fly fly fly...
7 min dauert bad timing. ist jetzt seit 4 tagen meine absolute lieblingsnummer, vor allem überland, sommerhimmel. dazu gesellt haben sich mittlerweile nr2: 7 days. 7 weeks, nr5: what we talk about (engl. version, die spanische ist wohl extra release?), nr6: include me out. erweiterung durchaus möglich. freundlich. gute stimmung. mülleimer bleibt leer. der vermeintliche fehlkauf war ein guter griff, wenn auch die scheibe nicht mehr ganz brandneu heiß aus dem rohr is.
